A Party To Remember: Friendship

Last year brought me into the graces of some extraordinary women and who to this day I call friends and who I hold extremely close to heart. With the birth of a new year, I saw my birthday in the company of these exquisite ladies. Some were new friends and some were old, especially my original Pagan friend Seven who I attended the very first Witchcraft Discussion Group here in Bundaberg in 2001. There was much anticipation with the coming to this 'Party' the entire week, one with my darling sister and bestie teasing me about the extraordinary gift she had bought for me. And coming up with a theme to this outrageous evening: the theme being exactly that, OUTRAGEOUS. So, with the teasing of this monolithic pressie and the gathering of attire and costume, my week building up to my Birthday Bash was extremely exciting. I believe the last party I had for my birthday was as a child back in New Zealand; and although I thought those parties were super awesome: they were nothing compared for what was yet to come.

River of Life Meditation

This meditation is designed to re-connect you to your Spiritual & Personal self-it allows you to get backin touch with your dreams, personal goals and to desperse negativity thought patterns that may prevent you from your goals and objectives. Best recorded on a tape or have someone with a calm voice read it to you.

Find a comfortable position where you can relax, close your eyes and be completely still, completely silent. Within your mind, body and spirit relax, let your physical body simply slip away...allow your thoughts to just come and go...come and go. Take a deep breath in to the count of four and hold it to the count of 4 (pause), now gather up all of the tension in your body, release it as you exhale. Take another deep breath, and as you exhale, let go of anybody else's energy, negativity or thoughts you may be carrying....and breathe in new refreshed energy throughout your body, feel it enliven you...breathe in all the new possibilities...and allow your body to fill with lightness. Feel it becoming lighter and lighter as you relax more and more...relaxing deeply...going deeper and deeper...feeling very light now...so light you could almost drift away..........

New Year's Resolutions

New Year's resolutions, what good are they? They go from one year and out the other! Haw haw!.

Who first came up with these pesky little admittions to ones yearly flaws, and why? Don't ask me—I don't know, I sure as smegg did not invent them. And for that matter, who really cares in all actual honesty? No one... not even the cat, dog or budgie. In fact, maybe it would be best to take a page from my Shitzu's life and not worry about esteem, self-improvement or personal hygene. After all... if sleeping in a lavender powder sprinkled soft bed, getting a meal a day, chasing a tail for fun and licking 'B's' is good enough for my dog, it should work for me- with the exception I don't have 'B's' nor a fluffy tail to chase. I can't even lick my elbow, not even if I tried with all my supernatural powers of will and manipulations (don't laugh, I bet you can't do it, either), so I know that tail-chasing is not my cup of sparkling champers or fizzy sherbert jello shots.

It is always the same melodrama, every year when the new year rolls around and after the hangover subsides, I wrack my brain to think of resolutions to improve my life, and my dogs. I've found from 'personal' experience that resolving to win the lottery is not likely to happen, because as an old souls tells me "Ya gotta play it ter win it, Ceri." And if you do not play it... it is not very likely that half of these rich Africans sending out emails promising millions of $$$ are actually going to cash up and get with the green. I was actually thinking of trying a 'Black Cat Mojo' spell for luck and see what pops my way. I guess, to inspire riches or at least a comfortable lifestyle, one must take action and means into their own hands. Like I posted on Stacey Demarco's Facebook "We are masters of our own fate!"

Litha Recipes- Mead & Wine

Always remember to use sterile equipment. Wash everything well and sterilize with boiling water. Use stainless steel pots or enamel ones, never aluminium or iron. Long handled wooden spoons are best for stirring. Small wooden kegs for ginger beer are great if you can get them, but do make sure they didn't contain something other than beer if they are old ones. Large glass carboys are great for wine, but you will have to siphon the wine out into smaller wine bottles when it is ready.

Honeycomb Mead

Place lots of honeycomb in a fairly large pan and cover with cold water and rub about with your hands, squeezing all the nutriment out of it into the water. Strain it through muslin and test with an egg; if the egg floats the mead is strong enough, if it sinks to the bottom a little honey must be added to make it float at the top.

Use 1 dozen cloves and 1 ounce of bruised ginger root to 2 gallons of the syrup. Add and bring it to the boil, then turn down heat and let it simmer, skimming until it is clear.

After it is cool put it in a big gallon bottle, it may ferment for a day or two or it may not. Ready to drink after 3 months or more.

The best of the honeycomb can then be used again--put it into a saucepan, melt it down in boiling water and set it to cool and the bees-wax will be on tip of the water when cold.

Litha Ritual

This special Sabbat is about coming into fullness, fertility, and fruition. The climax. On the Wheel of Time it represents maturity, the stage of the mother. Flowers should be in full bloom, and fruit dropping from the vine. The element associated here is fire, the sun has just entered the sign of Cancer, and the moon is in the sign of Pisces.

"We honor the energy of the elements within us. We are the Earth. We are the dark, we are heavy, we are substantial. We are grounded. We are water. We are fluid, we are clear, we are vital. We are renewed. We are fire. We are bright, we are hot, we are intense. We are passionate. We are air. We are light, we are movement, we are open. We are changed."

Welcoming The Sun

The Longest Day Ritual

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, this magickal sabbat can be observed with many activities throughout the day involving the warmth of the sun, the abundance of color all around us, new life and warmth. In the morning, before the golden rays of the sun peak above the horizon, light a tall orange candle, and from its flame light four smaller white candles to represent the four seasons, saying: "Father Sun, you illuminate the year and bring forth the warmth into my life that I need to carry with me through the colder months when your golden crest no longer warms my face. May you always burn brightly in my heart, and bring forth the light in my darkest hours." Then, fashion a small hoop from a thin branch,I prefer to use Eucalyptus or Tea Tree due to its healing, cleansing and protective properties. Ignite the hoop and let it burn out in a heat-proof dish. As the Sun rises, snuff or pinch out the candles.

At noon, the solar hour, go into your garden, backyard or wooded area (if you are near one), if you live in the city, buy a tree from your local nursery in a pot and tend to it on your balcony or living room. IF outdoors, elect a tree to honor. We all must remember that trees are living beings who, although are connected to Mother Earth and reach toward Father Sun to complete their growth cycle they are also strongly connected to us, the Spirits and the Fae. Honor your chosen tree with a gift of compost, water, crystals (Jasper, Multi-colored Agate, Calcite- Golden or White, Sedona, Sunstone, Lepidolite, Labradorite, Pyrite, Tiger Eye or any red stone), flowers (Grevillea, Banksia, Gardenia, Tiger Lilly), small tea lights(around the pot), or even have everyone you know over and place a small decoration on the tree branches (if in your garden or balcony).

At sunset, just as the final rays of sun vanish again behind the horizon and the beautiful tones of indigo merge with the resplendant tinctures of reds, oranges and pinks. Light your candles again, and thank the Sun for returning, bringing purification, healing, protection and warmth.

The 13 Affirmations Of An Australian Druid

1. I honor the energy of TEA TREE, for death and a new beginning. I am able to change myself as I so will it. So mote it be!

2. I honor the energy of BOTTLEBRUSH for protection against dark enchantments, for banishing all that is wrong in my life, or drifting upon the tide of energies around me, for cleansings and renewing my energies. I will not imprison myself with the chains of past failures. So mote it be!

 3. I honor the energy of MELALEUCA, for the protection of my inner oracle, intuition and knowledge. I will listen to The Voice of The Great Goddess within and believe in myself. So mote it be!

4. I honor the energy of SHE OAK , for the lunar rhythms within me as a woman. I will recognize and heed my own body's cycles, take knowledge in myself that I am my own temple, and I shall forever ground myself with the application of intellect and strength. To listen to the voices of our ancestors and spirits around us. So mote it be! (Man's version: "I honor the energy of SHE OAK , for the rhythms of passion that dwell within me as a man. I will recognize and heed my own body's needs,  and grounded application of intellect and strength. To listen to the voices of our ancestors and spirits around us. So mote it be!)

5. I honor the energy of MOUNTAIN ASH, the Witches Wand, our blessed pinnacle of focus and pure intent, for all including justice. I will remember our axiom: "As Above, So Below" - and that I too, play a part in the larger scheme of things, to honor all that is above, below and between. I will link my inner and outer worlds and protect all, within and without. So mote it be!

A Summer-Kissed Yule

Many may be asking themselves how they may celebrate Yule this year, or any other year when ours is one of sultriness and heat. Traditionally, the Pine Log is used to be decorated in tinsel, pine cones, decorations of ribbons, laces, leather tassels, skins, stones and anything that be added to give this some shimmer and shine. Although we do get variations of Pine, I do not find them as strongly scented as the Norfolk Pine used throughout my childhood, living in New Zealand.

In all context of good cheer, and what is readily available to me-the scent I find rather pleasant in a cleansing, purification type of aroma, is the Tea Tree. I decorate a piece that I find abandoned on the forest bed and decorate this with all the seasonal colors of an Australian Yule, reds, pinks, yellows, mauve and gilded tinsel to represent the sun and summer, not to mention the glorious crests of nature all about us, surrounding us like a protective mother shelters her child. My altar and table, I decorate with luminous, radiant flowers- whatever I find in bloom at this time of year, flowers that range from the fiery reds of the Poinciana, Flame Tree, variations of Banksia, and Grevillea. Passive, perfumed and peaceful whites of the Frangipani Tree and Azalea flowers that make you close your eyes and drift into the yonder of magickal and mythical places, bringing us back to our childhood when we wore the flowers in our hair, exotic and Faery-like. Mauve's and purples of the Jacaranda Tree, where tussles of purple rain gently fall from the clutches of the waving branches- purple rain drizzling across our driveways and footpaths.

A Daily Rant

It is just a wonderful day, positive thoughts generate positive vibes- or so I say after a couple of cups of coffee and a daily read of the beans. If all is true what the beans spoke, then I am truly in for an interesting year in 2010. Many have spoken about this massive energy change coming through, already on the wings of the wind, so, if this is correct I believe quite a few of us are in for a wild roller-coaster ride, and, what a beautiful change that shall be in opposition to the slow carousel that I endured for the past couple of years. Then again, it is due to my own indolence that it was so. Nothing beats a broomstick up the bum to get one moving, and it is long due that someone in this region stood up, waved their hands about their heads or jumping up and down meeping "Here I am, here I am. I am willing to lend a helping hand". It's true, there are not a whole heap of Pagans/Witches/Wiccan's or other in the area in which I dwell- or so one thought until recently having discovered so many coming out of the broom closet and joining in with the Witchy Jumping Bean Dance. How refreshing it is, to have now a gathering or such beautiful people joining with me, partaking in open circles under the radiance of the moon, sharing wisdom, laughter, failures and successes, supporting one another like brothers and sisters of the Ancient Paths should.

Heal My Heart Ritual

Our heart is the nuclear generator of the human energy system, all health, mental well being, emotional well being, our center of function and we all depend upon on it absolutely. Not only does a well functioning heart and its energies maintain our strength, joy and an extremely powerful machine in regards to all our thoughts, how we look upon ourselves, our actions AND our magic, it is also the ultimate MAGIC PROTECTION device against all evil doers and ill wishers. Our heart 'energy' works similiar to that of the sun - burning resplentantly, fiery and strong, it simply burns up everything that comes close and uses it for fuel. So in this regard, and much like our own sun, it thereby protects the entire "solar system" or 'chakra centers' of our energy bodies from harm, as well as generating the energy we need for being strong, loving, happy and proactive in life. Extremely radiant and "attractive" to others, (think of a beacon flashing out across the dark ocean, bringing ships safely into the bay), as well as being powerful, vibrant, safe and strong, having a solid center of self, high self esteem and good results in your plans and activities, the energy of our hearts is the ideal place to start a real regeneration of life - in a very real and practical sense. To heal.

A Daily Moment: Through the Window

It is always beautiful to sit here staring out from my window, looking upon a gorgeous world around me; Australia. Temperate zephyr gently stirring the music of silver tubular chimes, myself captivated, listening to those whispering tunes of sacred song; magpies happily sitting upon the arms of timber rails enjoying their daily feast of fruits and meats that I leave out. How busy the world is all around me, the ants climbing over Grevillea petals, native bees gathering nectar for the hive. How blessed we truly are to be able to sit here and enjoy the nature we have surrounding us. Our picturesque land of varying colors, climates and sand-swept beaches- it is an extremely blessed country with its energies so raw, wild and untapped. An ancient mother, gathering us all up in her arms to embrace us- teach us the way of our land... if only we would open up and allow us to breathe in her essence.
